OWU Surpasses $100 Million Campaign Milestone

December 6, 2000

DELAWARE, OHIO -- Ohio Wesleyan surpassed the $100 million milestone this month in the University's largest-ever fundraising drive, The Campaign for Ohio Wesleyan University.

The driving forces of the Campaign, which was publicly announced in May 1998, include: strengthening of the endowment, enhancing campus facilities, and increasing support for OWU's Annual Fund program.

"More than $48 million of these funds are directed toward the endowment," says OWU President Tom Courtice. "There is no greater priority than for us to grow, manage, and regenerate those [endowment] funds. Other important needs of the college change from time to time, but nothing is as constant in terms of building a base for future growth."

Facilities enhancements, another of the Campaign's components, are readily seen in several areas on campus. The recent dedication of the multimillion dollar R.W. Corns Building (once OWU's student union for more than 40 years, and now home of the economics department, Woltemade Center for Economics, Business and Entrepreneurship, Academic Resource Center and Information Systems area); the 7,000-square-foot Wellness Center, including the Mary Hanlon Moore Health Center and the Arthur Belt Fitness Center; the new soccer complex at Roy Rike Field; and the 3D Building serving the arts which will open soon, are all impressive results of Campaign support and success. In addition, work is scheduled to begin in Jan. on Edgar Hall, the new Fine Arts Center on OWU's north campus.

"This is a time for celebrating our accomplishments involving The Campaign for Ohio Wesleyan University and our success in surpassing the goal," says Courtice, "but we also celebrate the significant degrees of qualitative growth occurring on our campus. Our work, however, must diligently continue." For example, additional funds are needed for OWU's $34 million Science Center which will house a state-of-the-art collaborative learning facility for students.

As Courtice explains, The Campaign for Ohio Wesleyan University supports the hallmarks that characterize Ohio Wesleyan, including superior teaching, outstanding academic programs, exceptional facilities, creative student financial aid opportunities, and a caring and responsive learning environment. "The Campaign," he says, "is Ohio Wesleyan's future."
