Hollway becomes the 25th active NCAA Division III football coach to reach the 100-win mark, according to records of the National Collegiate Athletics Association. Simpson (Iowa) College's Jim Williams also won his 100th game on Saturday, finishing an hour after Hollway and the Bishops. Hollway's record at Ohio Wesleyan is 89-46-1, a sterling winning percentage of .656 -- the highest among Battling Bishop head coaches of more than 2 seasons. His overall record is 100-73-2, a winning percentage of .577. Hollway's career has been largely successful, from cutting his teeth as a graduate assistant at the University of Michigan to serving as defensive coordinator of the powerful Aug.ana College teams of the late 1970s and early 1980s, to overseeing one of the biggest turnarounds in college football while head coach at Marietta College in the mid-1980s, to assembling one of the top 20 teams in the nation at Ohio Wesleyan in 1989 and 1990. The Bishops shared the North Coast Athletic Conference championship in 1989. Last year, Ohio Wesleyan finished with an 8-2 record. "I have been blessed with the opportunity to work at fine schools with great athletics support and blessed with being surrounded by terrific players and great coaches," Hollway said. "The greatest satisfaction is in seeing players enjoy the success, due in significant part to their great efforts." |
