![]() Bishop Men's Soccer Hosts NCAA Division III Quarterfinal November 14, 2000
Ohio Wesleyan (23-0) won the Great Lakes Regional championship -- its eighth in 12 seasons -- by defeating DePauw, 2-0, on Saturday and Wilmington, 1-0, on Sunday. The Battling Bishops won the North Coast Athletic Conference championship, their 11th in the 17 years of NCAC competition. Ohio Wesleyan leads all NCAA Division III schools with 24 playoff appearances and 42 playoff wins. Linfield (20-0-1) won the West Regional championship with a 4-2 win over Gustavus Adolphus (Minn.) on Sunday The Wildcats won the Northwest Conference title with a 13-0-1 league record, then opened playoff action with a 4-0 win over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (Calif.) on Saturday. Linfield is making its first appearance in the NCAA Division III tournament. This is the school's third year as an NCAA Division III institution. Ohio Wesleyan and Linfield have never met on the soccer pitch. The winner of Saturday's Ohio Wesleyan-Linfield game will advance to the NCAA Division III championship to be held Nov. 24-26 on the campus of one of the participating institutions. |
