LAKE PLACID, N.Y. -- A team of 30 Ohio Wesleyan lacrosse players -- graduates from 1971 through 1981 -- won three games and lost one in the Grand Masters division of the annual Summit Lacrosse Tournament on Aug. 9-12.

The team, called the Bishop Legends, was made up of OWU lacrosse players who had not stepped on a field tegether in more than 25 years. The Grand Masters division is primarily comprised of players over 45 years of age.

"The OWU team brought many great players to Lake Placid," said George Leveille, director of the tournament. "We were thrilled that the Bishop Legends were part of our event, and we hope the team will return next year. Considering that the OWU players had not played together in so long, they were very competitive and added great spirit to our tournament."

Rich Seiler '72, NCAA Coach of the Year in 1976, was player/coach for the Bishop Legends. Assistant coaches included former OWU lacrosse players: Steve Corrigan '74, (defense coach), Keith Blaney '79 (midfield coach) and Tom Goodman '76 (attack coach).

The coaches selected Steve Aubrey as the team's Most Valuable Player. Aubrey, an assistant coach to Seiler in 1976 and 1977, excelled in the goal. The team named the MVP honor the Keen/Zonino Award, recognizing the great play in Lake Placid of the Bishop Legends' two other goalies in the tournament -- Scott Keen '77 and Pete Zonino '79.

Organizers of the OWU Bishop Legends team were Jeff Coulson '71, Charlie Hartigan '75 and Reg Ungberg '74. A reception for team members, their families, fans and other area alumni was held at the Lake Placid Resort and drew more than 100 people.

OWU lacrosse alumni from the 1970s interested in joining the team for the 2002 tournament (Aug. 8-11) should e-mail Reg Ungberg at reg.ungberg@timeinc.com.
