Human Rights Lecture Focuses on Issues in Muslim World

DELAWARE, OHIO -- Dr. Reza Afshari, professor of history at Pace University, will present a lecture at Ohio Wesleyan University titled "Human Rights in the Muslim World: Culture or Cultural Relativism?" on Thursday, April 11 at 7:30 p.m. in the Bayley Room of Beeghly Library. This lecture is hosted and sponsored by OWU's Department of Sociology and Anthropology, International Studies Program and Department of Politics and Government.

Afshari has been a professor at Pace since 1984, and he has published many articles and a book, titled Human Rights in Iran: The Abuse of Cultural Relativism. Some of Afshari's articles include "The Historians of the Constitutional Movement and the Making of the Iranian Populist Tradition" and "Poet and Prophet: The Iconoclasm of the Satanic Verses." Afshari has participated in several scholarly and peace-related international gatherings in places such as Princeton, Virginia, and Indonesia, and his papers have been presented at national academic conferences.
