DELAWARE, OHIO -- A ride for two in the Goodyear blimp. A 19-inch Emerson TV/VCR. Four brand new Goodyear tires. These items have one thing in common. They can be found at the Ohio Wesleyan University Spring Break Mission Week's Auction, Flea Market, and Raffle. This event is being held on Wednesday, Feb. 27, from noon to 5 p.m. in the Hamilton-Williams Campus Center Atrium. The "Preview/Pre-Sale" will begin at noon; the flea market and auction registration will be at 3 p.m.; and 4 p.m. will begin the kickoff for the actual auction and raffle drawings. Other items to be included in the auction will be authentic souvenirs from Africa, Ecuador, India, Sri Lanka, Peru, Russia, and the The Global Village Collection. All proceeds will benefit the seven spring break mission trips.

From March 9 to 16 OWU students will travel to Peru, the Hopi Reservation, Bolivia, Russia, and New Mexico to carry on the historic tradition of Ohio Wesleyan's mission to educate for leadership and service. Spring Break Mission Week, a project of the OWU Chaplaincy and Community Service Learning, provides interdisciplinary opportunities for students to respectfully experience other cultures, with thoughtful emphasis on spirituality, social justice and service learning. One of the goals of the missions is for the students, acting as humble learners, to bring back and share with the community their experience; and the hope is that the members of the visited cultures will see the concern and care outsiders wish to share with them. Spring Break Mission Week is an especially vital opportunity today, since Sept. 11, as Sue Pasters, Director of Community Service Learning, says these experiences are designed to "create a better understanding -- that's where peace comes from."

The only way for these mission trips to exist is through fundraising. This auction is one of the most essential ways for them to raise money. Please be a part of it.
