The comedy will be performed at Chappelear Drama Center's Studio Theatre on Feb. 1-2 and 8-9 at 8 p.m. and Feb. 10 at 2 p.m.

Indulgences in the Louisville Harem brings spinster sisters living in isolation two squares from the Ohio River together with a mute mesmerist from the International Institute of Science and Populism and his rakish assistant (who has been known to transform into a chicken); object: matrimony. The production is a fascinating, thought-provoking comedy that veers from uproarious farce to the poetic to the absurd, and back again.

John Orlock is an Ohio playwright who currently is a faculty member at Case Western Reserve University. He holds an M.F.A. from Pennsylvania State University. John Orlock's plays have been produced at such major regional theatres as the Oregon Shakespeare Festival; The Cleveland Play House; Alley Theatre, Houston; Cricket Theatre, Minneapolis; Arizona Repertory Theatre; the North Carolina Shakespeare Festival; Remains Theater, Chicago, and the Focus Theatre, Dublin, Ireland. He is a recipient of writing fellowships from The Ohio Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts, as well as fellowships from the Minnesota State Arts Board, and the National Endowment for the Humanities. Indulgences in the Louisville Harem received its Eastern European premiere at the Hungarian National Theatre in March 2000.

The play is guest directed by Delaware native Wayne S. Turney, a 1968 OWU graduate, who is best known as a performer in the Midwest where he has been an actor with the Actors' Summit Theatre, Cleveland Play House, Actor's Theatre of Louisville, and many others. He received an Emmy for his role in the long-running, hit children's television show Hickory Hideout from NBC Productions. He founded the Cleveland Actors Theatre Company at the famed Hanna Theatre in Cleveland and was co-founder of The Cleveland Theatre Company and the Ohio New Play Festival. Turney continues to tour with his solo performance of The Gospel According to St. Mark, which has taken him to churches and theatres coast to coast. Turney is a frequent performer with various orchestras, including the Cleveland Orchestra, The CIM Orchestra, the Chatauqua Symphony and the National Symphony, and is currently featured on the latest CD from the Cleveland Pops. He has directed numerous productions at professional theatres and universities. Less well-known is Turney's work as playwright and educator. He has had full productions of his plays performed in each of the last five years. One of his plays, The Fabulous Storyteller, was the basis for the libretto of David Gooding's chamber opera Aesop's Fables, Cleveland Opera's production of which is currently touring Ohio.

Indulgences in the Louisville Harem will feature four OWU student actors: Rebecca Little, Emily Fillmore, Alex Varel, and Josh Brown.

Ticket sales start on Jan. 21. Costs are $7 for the general public and $5 for students and seniors. Tickets may be purchased through the Chappelear Box Office at 740-368-3855.
