November 7, 2002

[ Claudia Stevens Photo ] DELAWARE, OHIO -- Claudia Stevens will feature her one-person performance A Table Before Me on Nov. 12 at 8 p.m. in Ohio Wesleyan's Chappelear Drama Center as part of the University's 2002-2003 Sagan National Colloquium and Performing Arts Series.

Stevens amazed audiences when she crossed over from an established career as a concert pianist, scholar and recording artist to become the innovative multidisciplinary performer she is today. She has created a unique body of works, many produced by Public Television and National Public Radio, which she performs at major venues nationwide.

A Table Before Me highlights Stevens one-person performance as a pianist, singer and actor. The musical one-act conveys the terror of her mother's family during the Nazi takeover of Austria in 1938. Stevens' mother, "Hertha" emerges as the most important character and is depicted through different stages of her life, culminating in America reflecting upon the pain and suffering she has faced.

A native of California, Stevens holds degrees from Vassar College, the University of California at Berkeley and Boston University. She previously held academic positions at Williams College and the College of William and Mary.

Stevens and all the Performing Arts Series productions are open to the public. Tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for students. For more information or tickets call 740-368-3188.
