Mueller Engages in 'War of Bushes' for Lovell Lecture on Public Opinion

[ John Mueller Photo ] DELAWARE, OHIO -- John Mueller, professor of political science at Ohio State University, will be speaking at Ohio Wesleyan University on Tuesday, Nov. 11. The lecture, "Public Opinion and the Wars of the Bushes," will take place at 7:30 p.m. in the Bayley Room of Beeghly Library.

Currently, Mueller is the Woody Hayes Chair of National Security Studies for Ohio State. In addition to his teaching experience in foreign and defense policy, international relations the Vietnam War, perspectives on war and peace, change in post-Communist countries and public opinion, he has also taught dance as an art form, choreography of Fred Astaire and dance history and film. Beginning in 2001, he has served on the Editorial Board of the Ohio State University Press.

From 1965-2000, Mueller was a Professor of Political Science at the University of Rochester as well as a Professor of Film Studies from 1983-2000. He began as an assistant professor and eventually finished as the Chair of the Department of Political Science. In 1994, he was also a Visiting Professor for the Institute of International Relations at Comenius University in Bratislava, Slovakia. In 1997, he was a Distinguished Visiting Professor at the University of Alberta and a Guest Scholar at Brookings Institution in Washington, DC. Most recently, in 2001, Mueller was a Senior Guest Researcher at the Norwegian Nobel Institute in Oslo, Norway.

Mueller has written several books relating to his area of expertise. His most recent book, The Remnants of War, was printed by the Cornell University Press. Some of his other books include Capitalism, Democracy, and Ralph's Pretty Good Grocery, which was printed by the Princeton University Press, The Strategy of Rhetoric: Campaigning for the American Constitution, which was printed by the Yale University Press, and Policy and Opinion in the Gulf War, which was printed by the University of Chicago Press.

He has also been published in multiple scholarly journals such as Journal of Peace Research, Public Perspective, National Interest and Public Opinion Quarterly.

Mueller has also engaged in many other activities relating to political science. He is a member of the Board of Overseers for the General Society Survey, a National Opinion Research Center contributor. He has had book reviews in The New York Times Sunday Book Review, American Political Science Review and the Political Science Quarterly. He is a member of the Advisory Committee at the Center for Polish and Central European Studies at the University of Rochester.

Mueller's lecture is free and open to the public. It is sponsored by the Edwin C. Lovell Lecture Fund, the International Studies Program and the Department of Politics and Government.
