[ Jacques Thibaud String Trio Photo ] DELAWARE, OHIO -- Ohio Wesleyan University's Performing Arts Series will conclude its 2002-2003 season with a performance by the award-winning Jacques Thibaud String Trio on Sunday, Feb. 16, at 3:15 p.m. in University Hall's Gray Chapel.

The Trio -- violinist Burkhard Maiss, violist Philip Douvier and cellist Uwe Hirth-Schmidt Æ- were prize-winners at the prestigious 1999 Bonn Chamber Music Competition.

Since being formed at the Berlin School of Music is 1994, the Trio has been on the touring circuit. The ensemble has performed throughout Europe, Japan and the United States. The New York Times claims, "This could be the first string trio in some time to have a major career."

The New York Times called their playing "spontaneous and commanding." Another critic likened the ensemble to a boy band, with the passion of Nine Inch Nails and a total lack of pretension. The Thibaud Trio experience is enhanced with the trio playing entirely from memory. The music is the only thing that comes between the audience and the performers.

Jacques Thibaud String Trio and all Performing Arts Series productions are open to the public with tickets costing $15 for adults and $5 for students. OWU students or students from other educational institutions, at the request of their teachers/professors, may receive free admission to all Performing Arts Series events related to specific coursework.
