'The Vagina Monologues' Performed at OWU as Part of V-Day Campaign

February 14, 2003

[ V-Day Logo ] DELAWARE, OHIO -- V-Day Ohio Wesleyan is coming! A benefit production of Eve Ensler's The Vagina Monologues is scheduled as part of the V-Day College Campaign. Performances will take place in Gray Chapel on the Ohio Wesleyan campus. There will be only two performances -- on Friday, Feb. 21, and Saturday, Feb. 22. Both shows will be at 8 p.m.

The goal of these performances, which are sponsored by the Wesleyan Council on Student Affairs and the OWU Women's Resource Center, is to stop violence against women and girls. All proceeds will be donated to Turning Point Domestic Violence Shelter in Marion.

V-Day is a global movement to stop violence against women and girls. V-Day is a palpable energy, a fierce catalyst that promotes creative events to increase awareness, raise money and revitalize the spirit of existing anti-violence organizations. V-Day generates broader attention for the fight to stop worldwide violence against women and girls including rape, battery, incest, female genital mulitation (FGM) and sexual slavery. V-Day provides funding to create and nurture innovative programs to stop the violence.

The V-Day College Campaign invites members of college and university communities around the world to present benefit productions of The Vagina Monologues on their campuses on or around V-Day (Feb. 14) to raise money and awareness to stop violence against women and girls. The proceeds from these events are donated directly by the schools to local organizations in their communities that are working to stop domestic violence. One of the goals of the College Campaign is to empower young people -- the leaders, shapers and messengers of the future.

Admission is $4 for students and $7 for non-students. For more information about V-Day, go to the V-Day Web site. For more information about the performance, call 740-368-3189.
