Wicker Explores World of 'Pre-Viking Gold Jewelry' for Jarvis Stewart Lecture

DELAWARE, OHIO -- The Ohio Wesleyan University Department of Fine Arts will present its Jarvis Stewart Lecture on Monday, March 3, at 8 p.m. in Room 312 of the R.W. Corns Building. Professor Nancy L. Wicker, Chair of the Department of Art at the University of Mississippi, will be speaking on "Pre-Viking Scandinavian Gold Jewelry: Smiths, Patrons and Workshops."

Wicker has published extensively in many different genres, including reviews, encyclopedia entries, newsletter articles and book chapters as well as editing and writing multiple books. Wicker has also lectured internationally on pre-Viking Norse metalwork in countries such as Russia, England, Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Portugal. She is a leading expert on the design, craft, display and social meaning of bracteates, small gold foil pendants stamped with images of gods and male warriors that were produced in Scandinavia, northern Germany and Anglo-Saxon England in the fifth and sixth centuries.

The lecture is free and open to the public. A reception will follow to allow guests to meet and speak with Wicker.
