OWU Hosts MTV's Rock the Vote Campus Tour

October 21, 2004

[ Rock the Vote ] DELAWARE, OHIO -- MTV's Rock the Vote Campus Tour will be coming to Ohio Wesleyan University on Monday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. The event will take place in the Hamilton-Williams Campus Center's Benes Rooms.

The Campus Tour has been traveling the country, visiting a variety of college campuses, while emphasizing the need and importance of voting in the upcoming presidential election. The program's speakers do not endorse the candidates running for president.

Cast members from The Real World and Road Rules programs—Rachel from the latter show and Syrus from Real World Boston will be the two former cast members coming to OWU. Both will bring up issues that affect college-aged people, in particular. They will discuss the importance of voting in a non-lecture, interactive format.

"I feel this is great for everyone, and a good way for all voters, no matter what their age, to see famous faces telling us why we need to vote and what issues really do matter," said Kristen Cook, a sophomore and politics and government/German double major at OWU. "It is time for my age group to do their jobs and vote for who they want in the White House. Our ideas and views need to be represented."

MTV's Rock the Vote Campus Tour is sponsored by OWU's Wesleyan Council on Student Affairs, the Department of Politics and Government, the College Democrats and the Arneson Institute for Practical Politics and Public Affairs.
