OWU Campus Groups Raise Money For Russian Tragedy

October 6, 2004

[ OWU Russia Fund Drive ] DELAWARE, OHIO -- The Modern Foreign Languages Departmental Board, the Modern Foreign Languages House, the Chaplain's Office, and the Interfaith Peer Ministry Council at OWU are sponsoring a fundraiser on campus and in the community, through the month of October, to demonstrate their support for the survivors of the recent hostage crisis in Beslan, Russia. As news about both natural and human-caused disasters continues to sadden us, none may have been more shocking in recent months than the deadly siege of the school in Beslan, which began on September 1, 2004 and ended 48 hours later with the deaths of at least 335 hostages, about half of them children. In order to aid the survivors in their recovery, the OWU organizations mentioned are encouraging the entire Columbus area to get involved in this cause.

All of the donations collected for the survivors of the hostage crisis will be sent to the United Nations Childrens' Fund (UNICEF), which currently is accepting donations. Checks should be made out to OWU--The Russian Children's Fund and mailed to Rita Boham, Modern Foreign Languages, Ohio Wesleyan University, 61 S. Sandusky St., Delaware OH 43015. Checks and cash also are being accepted at various locations on campus and can be delivered to Rita Boham in the Modern Foreign Languages Department in University Hall 212. More information is available at www.unicef.org or 740-368-3667.
