Film Series Focuses on Creativity

[ Strand Theater ] DELAWARE, OHIO -- Three fascinating films, "A Beautiful Mind," Akira Kurosawa's "Dreams," and "Dogville," will be shown at the Strand Theatre as part of the Sagan National Colloquium public affairs series at Ohio Wesleyan University, relating to this year's Colloquium theme on "Dimensions of Creativity."

"A Beautiful Mind" (Ron Howard, USA, 2001) will be shown on Tuesday, October 5, 2004 at 7:30 p.m. in Delaware's historic Strand Theatre. In "A Beautiful Mind," Russell Crowe hits just the right constrained note as John Forbes Nash Jr., the brilliant mathematician and recipient of the Nobel Prize for Economics, who gamely grappled for forty years with paranoid schizophrenia.

"Dreams" (Akira Kurosawa, Japan/USA, 1990) will appear on Thursday, October 7 at 7:30 p.m. Eight enchanting short stores are featured in this film from the Japanese master director. In Sun Under the Rain, a child spies a fox's wedding ceremony in a magical forest. George Lucas's Industrial Light and Magic special effects group shines in the Crows segment, in which an art admirer finds himself living within the painting of Van Gogh.

"Dogville" (Lars von Trier, Denmark/USA, 2003) is showing on Tuesday, October 12 at 7:30 p.m. Nicole Kidman and Lauren Bacall star in director Lars von Trier's meditation on small-town America. When a mysterious woman claims that she is being chased by hoodlums and needs a place to hide out, the residents of Dogville come to her rescue. The Strand Theatre is located at 28 E.
