OWU Celebrates 161st Commencement

August 29, 2005

DELAWARE, OHIO - Capping off Ohio Wesleyan University's first week of classes, is OWU’s Community Appreciation Day on Saturday, Sept. 3, beginning at 11:30 a.m. in the Selby Stadium parking lot.

Community Appreciation Day Members of the OWU and Delaware communities will come out to celebrate - into the evening hours - the start of the new academic year at a pre-football game party (free hotdogs, chips, soft drinks!) highlighted by the music of OWU's Pep Band and the Delaware Hayes High School Band. Other exciting surprises, including student raffles, also are planned. The Battling Bishops take on the Grizzlies from Franklin College (Indiana) at 1 p.m. in Selby Stadium. In addition, the women's field hockey team will play Sewanee (University of the South) at the Henry Street Field at 11 a.m.

The celebration moves on later that day to Roy Rike Field, with more free food, music and festivities (beginning at 6 p.m.) for the Fred Myers Invitational Soccer Championship game at 7:30 p.m.

"Community Appreciation Day will be an atmosphere in which the Delaware and OWU communities can come together to share the athletic abilities of our students as well as the excitement surrounding the start of the new academic year," says Roger Ingles, OWU's Director of Athletics. "We hope everyone will join us!"
