David Robbins to Serve as Interim Provost

February 2, 2005

Dr. David Robbins, Homer C. Lucas University Professor and Chair of the Department of Psychology at Ohio Wesleyan University has agreed to serve as OWU's Interim Provost for the 2005-06 academic year, following Provost William Louthan's recently-announced decision to resign from that position. Louthan served as Provost at OWU for close to 14 years, also holding the McKendree Professorship of Politics and Government.

"Dr. Robbins has been at Ohio Wesleyan since 1973, and has, over the course of those thirty-plus years, played a strong and active role in the faculty governance system," said OWU President Mark Huddleston. He made this appointment after consulting with several key constituencies on campus and with members of the Provost Search Committee assembled last fall. Robbins will serve as Interim Provost as important steps are taken to conduct a thorough national search for OWU's next Provost.

"My appointment as Interim Provost offers the great challenge of continuing in the legacy of a highly respected Provost who has provided the University with years of dedicated service," said Robbins. "At the same time, it offers me the exciting opportunity to lead a smooth transition to a new era at Ohio Wesleyan. I look forward to meeting these challenges with all of my energy and the best for OWU in mind."
