Ohio Wesleyan Names Dean of Academic Affairs

DELAWARE, OHIO — Ohio Wesleyan University has named Charles Stinemetz as dean of academic affairs. Stinemetz’s position at OWU includes responsibility for curriculum, student grievance and honesty procedures, and department and program budgets. Stinemetz is a native of Marysville, Ohio, and received his undergraduate degree in botany and chemistry from Ohio Wesleyan in 1983. He received his master’s and doctoral degrees in botany from The Ohio State University. Most recently, Stinemetz was the Robertson Chair of Biological Sciences and has served as the chair of the biology department at Rhodes College in Memphis, Tenn. At Rhodes, Stinemetz chaired the curriculum, individualized studies and honors, library, and academic space planning committees. He also served on faculty tenure and promotion committees at Rhodes.


Stinemetz has been a grant reviewer for NSF, USDA, Memphis Zoo, PEW-Midwest Consortium and the Associated Colleges of the South. He was nominated for the Higher Education Science Educator of the Year in Tennessee and is the author of numerous articles on plant root growth. His current research focuses on developing real-time, computer-based video imaging of root and fungal growth patterns and the proteomic analysis of calcium-binding proteins associated with root cap amylopasts.
