OWU Alumnus Wins International Song Writing Competition

DELAWARE, Ohio — Abram Wilson, a 1995 graduate of Ohio Wesleyan University, has won first prize in the jazz category of the International Songwriting competition.

Wilson's entry "Monk" was selected from among nearly 1,000 entries from 29 countries for the award. Wilson won more than $4,000 in cash and other prizes and "Monk" will be included on the ISC compilation disc distributed to music industry professionals.

Wilson, on the UK independent label Dune Records (http://www.dune-music.com/), released his debut CD Jazz Warrior in the United States in January. The album has earned him critical and public acclaim as well as nominations for a MOBO Award and a BBC Jazz Award.

Wilson, a native of New Orleans, has resided in London the past four years. He is currently on tour in Europe with Jazz Jamaica and the Soweto Kinch Quintet.
