Second Annual Bishop Backer Winter Community Showcase to be Held Jan. 20 on Ohio Wesleyan Campus

January 11, 2007

The second annual Bishop Backer Winter Community Showcase will be held from noon to 6 p.m. Jan. 20 in Branch Rickey Arena on the Ohio Wesleyan University campus. The showcase, and that day’s men’s and women’s home basketball games, are free and open to the public.

The OWU women’s game against the Wittenberg Tigers begins at 1 p.m., while the men’s game against the highly ranked Wooster Fighting Scots tips off at 3 p.m. During the games, 20 fans will be chosen to participate in OWU’s new $10,000 Halftime Shootout, giving them a chance to win free Marco’s pizzas along with $10,000 cash.

The Bishop Backer Winter Community Showcase will feature displays from more than 35 Delaware city and county businesses with a goal of highlighting all of the positive things the community has to offer. Verizon Wireless is providing bags to help visitors carry all of their goodies and giveaways.

“We encourage everyone to come out and enjoy the fun,” says Emma Bricker, co-chairperson of the Bishop Backers, a goodwill ambassador group for Ohio Wesleyan and the Delaware community. “This is a great opportunity for people to enjoy a couple of exciting basketball games and learn more about area businesses all for free.”

Additional highlights of the Bishop Backer Winter Community Showcase include:

  • Free health screenings
  • Free balloons and children’s activities
  • Raffles of OWU gear and other items
  • Sales of retired and rookie OWU athletic gear
  • Battling Bishop team photo and autograph opportunities
