Ohio Wesleyan University Presents ‘Orchesis 2007’ Feb. 23-24

February 15, 2007

A key event on the Ohio Wesleyan University campus for decades, this year’s Orchesis dance concert will be held at 8 p.m. Feb. 23 and 8 p.m. Feb. 24 in Chappelear Drama Center, 45 Rowland Ave. Note: There will be no matinee performance of this production.

Unlike past performances, Orchesis 2007 will feature more than just contemporary dance choreography. Each of the eight dances on the program is inspired by a community service organization, such as Habitat for Humanity, a housing partnership for people in need, and Students Taking Action Now: Darfur (S.T.A.N.D.), a group dedicated to the crisis in Sudan. The tone of each performance will correspond to the cause.

The pieces are choreographed by OWU students and Katie Teuchtler, a guest choreographer and part-time dance instructor at the University. The roster of dancers is made up of approximately 20 OWU students and seven children from the Columbus Dance Theatre, a company run by Orchesis’s artistic director and OWU dance professor, Tim Veach.

General admission tickets for Orchesis are $7, $6 for faculty and staff, and $5 for students. Call 740-368-3855 for reservations or visit theatre.owu.edu for more information.
