Classics Expert to Speak April 6 at Ohio Wesleyan University

DELAWARE, OHIO – Ohio Wesleyan University will host a lecture by prominent classicist Richard Thomas, Ph.D., professor of Greek and Latin and director of graduate studies at Harvard University.

Thomas will discuss “Pindaric Praise in Augustan Rome,” a lecture on the Latin poet Horace’s fourth book of Odes, at 8 p.m. Monday, April 6, in the Sanborn Hall auditorium, 23 Elizabeth St. Thomas’s lecture, which is free and open to the public, is sponsored by the OWU Classics Club.

Thomas has published articles, notes, and reviews on Hellenistic Greek poetry, on Roman poetry, on the reception of classical literature, and on the lyrics of folk singer Bob Dylan. Thomas received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in from the University of Auckland, before completing his doctorate in classics from the University of Michigan.
