DELAWARE, OH – Carpe Diem String Quartet, a faculty ensemble in residence at Ohio Wesleyan University, is pleased to announce its Columbus concert series, Seize the Music. The series will take place on three Friday evenings and three Sunday afternoons.

The quartet includes violinists Charles Wetherbee and John Ewing, violist Korine Fujiwara, and cellist Diego Fainguersch. On the fast track to becoming America’s premier “indie” chamber ensemble, this season Carpe Diem will showcase its musical versatility.

From Beethoven, Mozart, and Dvorak to John Zorn, Frank Bennett, and old-time music with guest artist Graeme Boone on banjo, Carpe Diem presents every work with passion, tradition, and individuality. Join the quartet for fantastic concerts, a great atmosphere, and receptions with the artists.

Hear the sound that put Carpe Diem’s latest CD on the 2009 Grammy Awards entry list in no fewer than four categories, including Best New Artist and (yes!) Best Classical Album! It will be a dynamic season of many well-loved classical composers, and audiences are guaranteed a wide variety of musical experiences.

The opening concert, on Sept. 25 and Sept. 27, features works by Beethoven, Bennett, Zorn, and Golijov, and will showcase guest artist Graeme Boone. On March 26 and March 28, Carpe Diem will perform the Mozart “Dissonance” quartet and Brahms 3rd quartet. The third and final concert of the series, on April 30 and May 2, features works by Shostakovich, Dvorak, and “Entangled Banks” by Korine Fujiwara, with a special photographic display by Karina Wetherbee.

World-renowned accordion and bandoneon player Peter Soave will return to Columbus for an encore performance, Red Hot Tango, with Carpe Diem on Jan. 27. There will be an open dance (Milonga) after the concert for all ticket holders.

Carpe Diem’s family series, carpe_diem_kids@harrisonpark, is accessible, educational, and interactive. This series is geared for the school-age audience. Children will enjoy the intimate and relaxed environment of these concerts. With an entertaining and educational format, these programs are a great opportunity for children to get up-close and personal with a professional string quartet. Concerts include music from cartoons, popular songs, video games, and movies, providing a familiar sound landscape for audiences of all backgrounds. Audience interaction is encouraged and there is always time for questions and answers. Dates for the family concerts are Sept. 27, March 28, and May 2.

All concerts will take place at Carpe Diem’s new concert venue, Harrison Park, 575 W. 1st Ave., Columbus. Free parking is available.
