Ohio Wesleyan University’s Department of Music Presents Annual Faculty Gala Concert

DELAWARE, OH – The Ohio Wesleyan University Department of Music Faculty Gala will be presented Saturday, Oct. 3 at 5 p.m. in Gray Chapel at 61 S. Sandusky St. in Delaware. This is the seventh annual Faculty Gala concert for the Department of Music. There will be 10 faculty members performing in total. Admission is free and tickets are not required.

The Music Department has been a vital facet of the Ohio Wesleyan community for over 150 years. As one of the most respected music programs of the liberal arts colleges in Ohio, the Department of Music is characterized by talented and experienced faculty, outstanding facilities, personal attention, and numerous performing opportunities for both music majors and other interested students. Currently there are 40 music majors in the department, seven full-time and 14 part-time faculty members. Music majors are offered the unique and challenging environment of the professional music degree program within the context of the university’s renowned liberal arts curriculum while the entire Ohio Wesleyan community enjoys a variety of musical performance and learning opportunities.

The performers and repertoire are:

  • Korine Fujiwara, violin (instructor of violin), Nancy Gamso, clarinet (professor of woodwinds), Diego Fainguersch, cello (instructor of cello) and Cameron Bennett, piano (professor of piano) – Air and Simple Gifts by John Williams.
  • Jason Hiester, tenor (assistant professor of voice) and Mariko Kaneda, piano (assistant professor of piano) – selections by Reynaldo Hahn, Benjamin Britten, and Hugo Wolf.
  • David Freedy, tuba (instructor of low brass) and Mariko Kaneda, piano (assistant professor of piano) – Bassoon Concerto in B-Flat Major by W.A. Mozart.
  • Cameron Bennett, piano (professor of piano) – Three Preludes by Jason Bahr (assistant professor of theory & composition).
  • Marilyn Nims, mezzo soprano (professor of voice) and Cameron Bennett, piano (professor of piano) – selections by Claudio Santoro, Kurt Weill, Francis Poulenc, and George Gershwin.
  • Carpe Diem String Quartet (ensemble in residence at OWU – Charles Wetherbee, violin; John Ewing, violin; Korine Fujiwara, viola; Diego Fainguersch, cello) – String Quartet in F Minor, Op. 95 (1st movement) by L.V. Beethoven and Fiddle Suite: Montana (Montana and Stillwater Gorge movements) by Korine Fujiwara (Instructor of Violin).
