DELAWARE, OH – Ohio Wesleyan University’s Department of Theatre & Dance will stage “Orchesis 2011,” its annual dance concert, at 8 p.m. April 15 and 16 on the Main Stage inside Chappelear Drama Center, 45 Rowland Ave.

“Orchesis 2011” is under the artistic direction of Jill Becker, assistant professor of Theatre & Dance. Technical direction is by Chad Knutson, and costume design is by Jacqueline Shelley, both of the Department of Theatre & Dance. Stage management is by senior Carie Clark of Radnor, Ohio.

Overall, the company includes about 40 students. The first half of this year’s performance, “Changing Light,” will explore various qualities of light, both natural and man-made, and the atmospheres they create. These dances, directed by Becker, are choreographed to music by Finnish composer Kaija Saariaho.

Choreographers for “Changing Light” include sophomore Kathleen Dalton of Litchfield, Ohio; junior Brittany Robertson of Wadsworth, Ohio; seniors Frieda Trovela of Morton Grove, Ill., Laurel M. Elliott of Phoenix, and Aryn Taylor of Athens, Ohio; and OWU faculty member Gregory Mack, an assistant professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy.

The second half of the performance includes dances that explore emotions ranging from spiritual relationships and faith to human aggression. Choreographers include sophomores Tessa Cannon of Trumansburg, N.Y., and April Warner of Dublin, Ohio; junior Brittany Robertson; seniors Rachel Spetrino of Medina, Ohio, Gloria Clark of Huntsville, Ala., and Laurel Elliott; and faculty member Gregory Mack.

General admission is $10, $5 for Ohio Wesleyan employees, non-OWU students, and senior citizens.
