EarthDance Delaware Holds Third Annual Event Sept. 24
August 31, 2011
Begun in 1997 as a way to unite the world through the universal platforms of dance and music, EarthDance has become the largest global dance event in the world, occurring in more than 200 locations in over 50 countries. Rising out of the global electronic music scene, EarthDance has grown to feature a diverse cross-section of musical genres including world music, jazz, conscious hip-hop, folk, and reggae. This is the third annual EarthDance in Delaware, Ohio.
This year the celebration will bring some old and new artists and talent. DJ Darby Park, members of Bellydance Columbus, and Israeli folk dancing will return, while there will be new performances by OWU Dance majors. The highlight of the evening is the EarthDance Prayer for Peace, uniting all local events in a global moment of solidarity.
EarthDance promotes peace by supporting humanitarian causes through the global languages of music and dance. In the spirit of this year’s theme, “Preserving the Forests,” Stratford Ecological Center has been chosen as the beneficiary of this event.
The Stratford Ecological Center is a non-profit educational organic farm and nature preserve on 236 acres in Delaware County, Ohio. Visitors are welcome to explore the land, hike the 4 miles of nature tails, visit the livestock, tour the gardens and greenhouses, or explore the creek, pond, prairie, swamps, or State Nature Preserve. Farm products are available for sale seasonally, based on availability. Stratford offers workshops and classes for children and adults, annual festivals, farm tours, school tours, farm camp, and family programs. Stratford will provide fresh produce for the dinner, and videos of the Center will be shown at the event.
Give Peace a Dance! Crafts and activities will be offered for children. Dinner will be served from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Suggested donation is $5 per person, and all proceeds will benefit Stratford Ecological Center. All are welcome.
EarthDance Delaware 2011 sponsors include Ohio Wesleyan’s Office of the University Chaplain, B’nai B’rith Hillel, Tree House small living unit, The Methodist Student Movement, and Citizens of the World small living unit.
