Ohio Wesleyan Graduate, International Trader-Broker to Discuss ‘Survival Management in a Distorted Economy’ in Free Sept. 22 Lecture

DELAWARE, OH – Andres Duarte, managing director of Caracas, Venezuela-based Duarte Vivas & Associates, will discuss “Survival Management in a Distorted Economy: the Venezuelan Model” in a free public lecture at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 22 in the Benes Rooms of Ohio Wesleyan University’s Hamilton-Williams Campus Center, 40 Rowland Ave.

His presentation, part of Ohio Wesleyan’s annual Robert L. Milligan Leaders in Business Lecture Series, also will be streamed live online and archived at StreamOWU.

Duarte, a 1965 Ohio Wesleyan graduate, has more than 30 years of experience in business development in South America and the Caribbean, including work in commodities trading, shipping, and port management and logistics.

Duarte Vivas & Associates focuses on bulk commodity trading, such as liquid and solid petroleum products, vegetable oils, cement, coal, and grains. In addition, the company assists with paper imports and with security products and hardware for the banking industry. It also handles transport logistics and act as customs and ship agents.

Andres Duarte, a double major in geology and economics at Ohio Wesleyan, also serves as a representative for several multinational companies in Venezuela, assisting the companies with the import-export process.

In addition to his OWU bachelor’s degree, Duarte holds a master’s degree in geology from the University of Oklahoma in Norman, Okla., and a master’s degree in international affairs from The Fletcher School at Tufts University in Medford, Mass. He is a member of the Ohio Wesleyan Board of Trustees.

The Milligan Leaders in Business Lecture Series is presented by Ohio Wesleyan’s Woltemade Center for Economics, Business, and Entrepreneurship. The series was created in 1992 with an endowment from Robert L. “Bill” Milligan and his wife, Mary. The late Bill Milligan was a 1922 Ohio Wesleyan graduate and longtime university trustee.
